How to Play Beehive Solitaire

In Beehive Solitaire you build cards of equal rank to move them to the foundation.

Objective

Your goal is to build 13 sets of cards of equal rank. For example, you will build a set of 4 Kings. Once done across each rank, you win the game!

The Setup and Play Area

Foundation piles: These are the 13 piles where you aim to move stacks of cards of equal rank. For example, if you have a sequence of 4 Jacks, they can then be moved to the foundation. Successfully placing all 52 cards in the foundation wins the game.

Tableau piles: This area consists of 6 columns, each with 1 face-up card.

Reserve of Beehive: These are the 10 cards in a column, with the last card facing up. The face-up card can be played into the tableau. Once played, the next card is then turned over.

Stock pile: The rest of the cards, or 36 total, go into the stock pile. You deal 3 cards at a time, and you can go through it unlimited times.

Waste pile: The top card of the waste pile can be played into the tableau.

How to set up a game of Beehive Solitaire

Available moves

  • Reserve, Waste, and Tableau cards can be moved on top of cards of an equal rank. For example, a 3 of Spades can be placed on top of a 4 of Clubs, Diamonds, or Hearts.
  • Groups of cards cannot be moved. In Beehive, you don't build cards in ascending or descending order.
  • Once a tableau column is empty, a reserve card is moved there. If there are no more reserve cards, then you can move cards from the stock pile into an empty tableau column.
  • You cannot move a group of cards.
  • Once you create a sequence of 4 cards of the same rank, they can be moved to the foundation. For example, once you have matched 4 Queens, they are cleared from the tableau and placed into the foundation.

Strategy

  • Examine the stock pile. Because you can go through it an unlimited number of times, you can find out which cards are in the stock pile and, through the process of elimination, which cards are in the reserve or beehive. This will allow you to plan out your moves.
  • If you get stuck, use the undo button. You may not always make the right moves, and you may need to reverse some to win the game.
