How to Play Australian Solitaire

Australian Solitaire of Patience is a Yukon-style game. Similar to Yukon, you can move any card in a tabealu column along with the cards below it, but it has to be placed on a card one rank higher of the same suit.

How to Play

Objective

The goal is to move all cards to the 4 foundation piles by suit in order from Ace to King.

The Setup and Play Area

There are three main areas in the game:

Tableau: This is the area where there are 7 columns of cards with 4 cards each, all face up.

Stockpile: The remaining 24 cards are placed in the stockpile. Cards are dealt one at a time into the waste pile, and you can only go through the stockpile once.

Foundation piles: These are the 4 piles at the top of the game, each representing a suit. Cards from the stockpile and tableau are moved here from Ace to King by suit.

Available moves

  • A card and all the cards beneath it can be moved on top of the bottom card of another tableau column if it is one rank lower and of the same suit. For example, if you have a 4 of Hearts and a 9 of Spades underneath it, both cards can be moved together on top of a 5 of Hearts that sits at the bottom of another tableau column.
  • Only Kings can be placed in empty columns.
  • You can only go through the stockpile once.
  • You win when all cards are moved to the foundation from Ace to King by suit.

Strategy

  • Only deal cards from the stockpile when you have no other moves.
  • Free up columns. This way you can move a King, start building new sequences, and free up cards in the process.
  • Move Kings to an empty column when it can help free up other cards.
  • Move Aces and 2s to the foundation piles immediately.
  • Carefully cycle through the stockpile. You can only use the stockpile once, so if you go through too many cards quickly, you may no longer have the ability to play the cards in the waste pile.
  • Use the hint or undo button. You can use our hint button to help you identify which cards to move or our undo button to try different moves.
